Old Town Newhall: Santa Clarita's historic downtown
Old Town Newhall is the historic downtown of Newhall, the oldest community in the City of Santa Clarita and the valley's first permanent town. It centers on Main Street, with independent restaurants, stores and theaters, the Old Town Newhall Library at 24500 Main Street, and the Newhall Metrolink station on Railroad Avenue. William S. Hart Park, whose museum reopened in April 2026, is nearby.

What Old Town Newhall is
Newhall is the southernmost and oldest community in the City of Santa Clarita, named after businessman Henry Mayo Newhall; it was the first permanent town in the Santa Clarita Valley and joined Valencia, Saugus and Canyon Country to form the City in 1987. Its historic district, Old Town Newhall — also called Downtown Newhall — is a cultural and business center with independent restaurants, stores and theaters, and a public library.

Getting there by train
The Jan Heidt Newhall Metrolink Station, named for one of the City's original council members, sits on the Antelope Valley Line between Los Angeles Union Station and Lancaster. On weekdays it is served by 30 trains (15 each way), and by 24 trains on Saturdays and Sundays (12 each way), spaced through the day.
William S. Hart Park and Museum
- The park, home to silent-film star William S. Hart's former mansion, is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- The museum held its grand reopening on April 10, 2026.
- The barnyard is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a free guided tour on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.
- The Ranch House is open Monday 1–5 p.m. and Tuesday to Sunday 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day; open 8 a.m. to noon on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
Light Up Main Street
Every November since 2013 the City has held Light Up Main Street in Old Town Newhall, with the City Council counting down to light the Christmas tree in front of the Old Town Newhall Library, plus live performances, crafts and a maker's marketplace. In 2025 it was on Saturday, November 15, from 4 to 8 p.m., with the tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. The 2026 date had not been announced when this guide was checked.
